Last Saturday, Beth Robertson, one of our past contributors, launched her memoir Into the Light. We took the opportunity to ask Beth about her book. We bring you her answers, and congratulate her on her wonderful achievement.

What prompted you to write Into the Light?
A leaflet promoting the Tabor Creative Writing program found its way into my hands; at the same time some young friends at my church had enrolled in the course and offered to drive me if I wanted to sign up. The first stories from my book began as assignments and writing exercises done as part of my study. After I graduated, I continued writing and editing.
What is the genre of your book?
Memoir
Who is your intended audience?
Anyone who the Lord wants to read it, that through my book they might see God loves them.
How would you describe your writing process for this book?
I’m grateful to my African grandfather for his courage and strength of character which gave me the foundation to see this book through to the finish. Also to the many fellow writers and professional editors who helped bring it all together.
What effect do you hope that your book will have on your readers?
I do hope readers will not put me on a pedestal. I just want them to hear what Jesus has done for me.

“Told with wit and pathos, and her trademark honesty, the stories in these pages testify to the hope and joy that have carried Beth through some truly remarkable transitions.” – Dr James Cooper, Head of Creative Writing and Communication, Tabor College
“Into the Light portrays a wise and beautiful life lived in a constant desire to seek relationship with God. From racial ostracisation as a child and having little sense of identity, the young Beth grows from fear to faith and giving thanks in all circumstances, whether it be nursing in Australian or Sudan, singleness or marriage. What startling stories of being found by God’s love, healing and of miracles!” – Rosanne Hawke, Author
