Short category judge: Lorraine Marwood

We’re delighted to announce that Lorraine Marwood will be our 2022 judge for the Short category (stories no longer than 500 words).

Lorraine has been pursuing her lifelong passion of writing for a very long time now.  Her publishing credits have resulted in many poems for children published in ‘School Magazine’ NSW, six poetry collections for children- four available at Walker books, two Aussie Nibbles, several reading books in educational series, four verse novels and many anthologised poems.

Her verse novel ‘Star Jumps’ won the inaugural Prime Minister’s award for children’s Literature in 2010 and ‘Leave Taking’ UQP books was a CBCA shortlisted book in 2019 and a winner in the NSW Patricia Wrightson award for children’s fiction.  Her latest book ‘Footprints on the moon’, UQP books is a CBCA Notable book for 2022.

Lorraine and her husband Kelvin raised six children on a dairy farm in Northern Victoria- now those children are adults, married and they have gifted them with 13 grandchildren. Lorraine now lives in her birth and childhood town of Bendigo, where the goldfields history is often reflected in her work. In 2022 Lorraine was awarded a research scholarship with Curtin University to do Post Graduate studies on her passion- the verse novel for children.
